In addition, Naturepedic organic baby crib mattresses and children's organic mattresses pass even the strictest criteria - the GREENGUARD Children & SchoolsSM test. This gives parents confidence that the Naturepedic line of organic non-toxic baby crib and children's mattresses will not produce harmful “off-gassing” or pollute the air quality around their baby's crib or child’s sleeping environment.

Organic Cotton
-Domestically grown and certified organic cotton
-Unbleached, undyed and grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers.

Traditional or Seamless Design?
There are two main differences between the traditional and seamless designs. The first involves functionality. The seamless design features heat sealed waterproof edges that prevent moisture or fluids from seeping into the mattress along the edge. While it is rare for an accident to occur along the edge of the mattress, it is a possibility. The waterproof edges also provide a more allergenically sealed construction. The second difference involves aesthetics. Some people prefer the traditional look of a binding or trim while others prefer the sleek modern look of the seamless design.

Single Firmness or Dual Firmness?
A single firmness crib mattress will have the same firmness on both sides. This firmness level will work for both infants and toddlers. With a dual firmness model, the two sides have been tailored specifically for the stage of the child. This specialization results in a slightly firmer infant side and a slightly softer toddler side.

150 or 252 coil innerspring?
The 252 coil innerspring is a bit firmer, but the real advantage lies in the center reinforcement. In addition to more coils, the 252 coil innerspring features 9 guage cross beams that help prevent sagging in the center of the mattress (a Naturepedic exclusive). This is really only a concern with cribs that don't support the center of the mattress well (e.g. cribs with a wire mesh support system). Both innerprings feature 9 gauge border wire for strong edge support and are designed to meet the CPSC recommendations for firm support in baby crib mattresses.

Optional Accessories
They are all made in the USA by Naturepedic from organic cotton.
-Organic mattress protector pad (waterproof & non-waterproof)
Highly absorptive and extra soft, this pad helps to reduce uneven temperatures, sweating, and clamminess.
Made from two layers of organic cotton flannel - Top and bottom. The waterproof version features an ultra-thin waterproof membrane (DrySleep) in the center.
Based on years of research, DrySleep technology effectively blocks liquids from passing through the fabric while still allowing the material to “breathe.” It features a specially formulated non-toxic medical grade film which effectively blocks liquids while allowing a certain amount of water vapor (similar to humidity naturally found in the air) to pass through. This results in less “sweaty backs” and a drier, more comfortable sleep. Vinyl/PVC, latex, and rubber, on the other hand, are very “sweaty”. They block all moisture from passing through, creating a more uncomfortable sleeping environment. DrySleep provides full non-toxic waterproof protection without the associated discomfort. Also blocks dust-mites and other allergens. The DrySleep waterproof membrane does not contain any added fire retardants or antimicrobial treatments and is free of vinyl/PVC, phthalates and latex. It is also free of all chemicals listed on California’s Proposition 65 bulletin. It has been tested for off-gassing and easily passes GREENGUARD’s certification standards for eliminating chemical emissions. It is extremely thin (even thinner than the membranes used in the new environmentally friendly cloth diapers).
Waterproof or Non-Waterproof?
Both pads will provide added breathability and absorption in case of an accident. If a waterproof mattress is used, you can go either way. However, the waterproof pad eliminates the need to clean the waterproof mattress in the event of an accident (especially convenient). For non-waterproof mattresses, the waterproof pad is highly recommended for protection while also providing a dust mite barrier.

-Organic fitted crib sheets
Made from 100% organically grown cotton. Luxurious 250 thread count sateen or soft flannel. Fitted design and elastic perimeter provide secure fit.

-Organic pillows and pillowcases
Pillows are filled with 100% organic cotton and made from 100% organic cotton dust mite barrier fabric - ultra tight 550 thread count weave has a mean flow pore diameter of 3.5 microns making it impenetrable to dust mites (10 microns) and other allergens.
Size: Junior/Toddler Size (14" x 20")
Organic cotton pillowcases made from 100% organic cotton luxurious sateen fabric.

-Organic mattress quilted topper
Provides a softer more mature sleep surface for your toddler or older child. This quilted topper is like a "pillowtop" and is designed to replicate the feel of a quilted adult style bed, it is not recommended for infants as they need a firm flat surface. Makes a great addition to any crib mattress used by a toddler or older child.
Material: 100% organic cotton (luxurious organic cotton fabric + organic cotton filling).

Why Organic Cotton is Better than Conventional Cotton?
-No chemicals: Organic cotton is grown without pesticides and fertilizers, unlike conventional cotton, which uses 25% of the world's insecticides and 10% of the world's pesticides. For instance, it takes roughly a third of a pound of pesticides and fertilizers to grow enough cotton for just one T-shirt.
-Better for human health: Organic farming prevents farmers and the local population from being exposed to hazardous chemicals. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers 7 of the top 15 pesticides used on cotton in the year 2000, in the United States, as "possible", "likely", "probable", or "known" human carcinogens.
-Better for the environment: Organic farming prevents soil erosion, protects air and water quality for plants and animals, and preserves species biodiversity through crop rotation.
-Safer product especially for a baby's sensitive skin: Clothing or toys made from organically grown cotton are free of much of the harmful chemical content present in conventionally grown cotton. Bleaches, formaldehyde, and other chemical finishes are also used in non-organic textile manufacturing. Even after washing a cotton shirt many times, chemical traces remain.

What’s In a Naturepedic Mattress?

Food-Grade Polyethylene (Waterproof models only)
Polyethylene is an environmentally friendly plastic that is used throughout the food packaging industry for its purity and non-toxic properties. It has a very simple molecular structure that does not require chemical additives (as opposed to vinyl/PVC) and is favored by environmental groups all over the world. Naturepedic uses only polyethylene specially formulated to meet food contact standards, creating the finest non-toxic and waterproof mattress cover available. Polyethylene is easy-to-clean and highly stain resistant while providing an excellent barrier to dust mites and other allergens.

Certified Organic Cotton
Organic cotton is the purest form of cotton, grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or GMO’s (genetically modified organisms). In mattresses and changing pads, organic cotton is a healthier alternative to foams (which are chemically treated) and latex (which is allergy-prone). Naturepedic uses only U.S. grown and certified organic cotton.

Heavy Duty Orthopedic Innerspring
Naturepedic uses only the highest quality innersprings available. Steel springs are readily recyclable and provide heavy duty support without any health or allergy concerns. Naturepedic's flagship crib innerspring (Ultra) features 252 coils at 15.5 gauge with 9 gauge border wire and additional 9 gauge center reinforcement. This Naturepedic's exclusive provides ideal support and weight distribution. Naturepedic's 150 coil innerspring (Classic) features 13 gauge coils with 9 gauge border wire.

Non-Toxic Fire Protection
Nearly all mattresses today are made with polyurethane foam or latex as the primary filling material. Due to their high flammability, these materials are usually treated or wrapped with harsh industrial fire retardant chemicals. Some of these chemicals introduce health and toxicity concerns. Naturepedic take a different approach. Organic cotton is a far superior filling material and is significantly less flammable to begin with. Naturepedic's exclusive fire protection system is non-toxic and naturally derived. It is based on the unique fire retardant properties of baking soda and hydrated silica bonded to cellulose fiber. Baking soda is a non-toxic substance with excellent fire retardant properties and can be found as a naturally occurring compound. Silica is a natural mineral that comprises about 60% of the earth’s crust. Clay, rocks, sand, etc. are all made primarily of silica. It is a major constituent of human tissue, bones, teeth, etc., and is even available at health food stores as a food supplement. It is also a primary ingredient in natural toothpaste. The cellulose fiber used is derived primarily from eucalyptus and poplar trees and has a low carbon footprint. These materials provide the best way to meet fire regulations without the use of dangerous chemicals or allergenic wool or latex.
